Eyes Are The Windows To The Soul-Analysis Of The Painting--An Eye.

Eyes Are The Windows To The Soul

The eyes are the windows to the soul. They narrate everything what our lips are afraid of. In any portrait drawing I give more attention to the eyes, as they are the most beautiful and realistic feature of a portrait. I try to draw them first and with diligence. It establishes a connection between me and the portrait which let me to interact with it every second. I generally use colors like Burnt sienna, Ivory black, Prussian blue, sap green, etc., to paint the Iris and pupil according to the color of the eye. In case of Painting the scelera I use little bit of Ivory black, Cobalt blue  and a bit more amount of Ivory white to bring out that grey tint. For the blood veins I use a very thin brush and pale red mixed with linseed oil or color thinner. Then I use Titanium White for the highlights and appearance of moisture. Burnt sienna, yellow ochre, Scarlet red are mixed proportionately along with white for the skin around the eyes. Highlights should be added to the brow-bones, the upper lid, the lower lid and the cheekbone to indicate the direction of the light. The appearance of moisture in the eye brings out the life in it. It is basically seen at the joining edges of upper and lower eyelids to the eyeball and the tear-duct.

The video link given in this post is to my Painting of a realistic eye on YouTube. This Painting took me more than two weeks as it is done in oil color and takes a lot of time to dry. At first the basic skin-tone, scelera, Iris and pupil were done followed by the black marks within the pupil and eyelashes. Enjoy the full painting process in time-lapse and let me know the feedback in the comment section below.
